Frontline Series - “Where’s the handbook?”

Am I Getting Paid on 4th of July?

From the Frontline Series — Written by a Crew Member Who’s Just Trying to Plan Ahead

I’m almost embarrassed to ask…

But are we getting paid for the 4th of July this year?

I feel stupid even bringing it up.

I know you gave us that 25-page handbook during spring orientation.

The one in the little binder with the laminated cover.

The one I probably left under the seat of my truck... or maybe at home with my tax stuff.

But I can't find it right now.

And the 4th is coming up fast.

I Don’t Want to Be That Guy

I don’t want to sound ungrateful.

I don’t want to make it seem like I’m not appreciative of the job, the hours, the extra time you gave me in spring.

I just need to know, plain and simple:

Are we getting paid for the 4th or not?

Because I’m trying to plan.

I’ve got family asking.

I’ve got a cookout invite.

I’ve got a kid who’s been talking about fireworks for three weeks.

And if I’m not getting paid, I need to know so I can budget for that check.

And if I am getting paid great, I just want to make sure I’m not the only one who’s unsure.

The Real Problem: Silence

What makes this hard isn’t the money.

It’s the awkward silence that happens when the crew starts wondering out loud:

“Wait… are we getting paid for the 4th?”

No one wants to ask out loud.

No one wants to be the one who didn’t read the fine print.

So instead, we all just guess.

Until the pay stub hits.

And by then, it’s too late to do anything about it.

It’s Not Just About the Holiday

This happens more than it should.

  • Do we get paid if it rains?

  • What’s our start time next Monday?

  • Who do we call if the truck breaks down?

  • Can we wear shorts when it hits 90?

And the answer is always the same:

“It’s in the handbook.”

The handbook that no one can find.

Or maybe it’s printed on the bulletin board…

In the break room…

Under the faded calendar…

Behind last month’s safety poster.

What CrewHero Changed

Now?

I just open CrewHero.

There’s a section for company links.

Another for announcements.

And a spot for quick policy answers.

I search “Holiday Pay” and boom it’s right there:

✅ “We pay for 4th of July if it lands on a weekday.”

✅ “Team members must have worked the day before and after to qualify.”

✅ “Holiday pay appears on the next regular paycheck.”

No need to ask awkward questions.

No need to pretend I remember page 17 of the handbook.

Just answers. In plain sight.

Final Thought

I’m not trying to milk the company.

I just want to plan like a grown adult.

I want to know if I’m getting paid for the 4th.

Not by flipping through a binder.

Not by texting my supervisor at 9 p.m.

Not by guessing in the group chat.

CrewHero gives us what we’ve needed all along, clarity.
